Men Must-Haves...

Due to a few requests, I have decided to briefly touch upon dressing a guy. Given my lack of expertise in male fashion, I have used my husband (who is a great reference) as a sounding board for these choices. Many of you may have no need for these tidbits, but I assumed with gift-giving season around the corner it may be helpful to have some shopping ideas (even if it is for your brother)....

1. Brooks Brothers Non-Iron Dress Shirts This first must-have is wonderful. These shirts are machine-washable and once they come out of the dryer they can be hung wrinkle-free! Not only that, but they come in a variety of colors and patterns that can be worn to the office and out at night underneath a sweater. The slim-fit style is not too tight and gives a less blousy look (perfect for layering). There is often a special price for buying multiple at once. Ladies: you need to know your guy's dress shirt size in order to buy these for him on the sly.

2. Banana Republic V-Neck Sweater For fall and winter, these sweaters are versatile. They can be worn over collared shirts for a more dressy look, or simply over a crew-neck t-shirt. Grey is a wonderful choice because it goes well with brown or black shoes and with any color.

3. Brown Loafer There are many variations of the loafer that look nice and it really is an individual preference on style choice. However, based on my husband's shoes, I love when he wears jeans and brown loafers to go out. They really can dress up simple jeans and a sweater. Plus, from what I've been told, they are super comfortable. Cole Haan and Banana Republic are great places for loafers as well.

4. Blazer Jackets are great when going out because they provide added warmth, but also add polish to an outfit. I like this corduroy blazer because it is still casual enough for the guy who doesn't like to look like he is trying too hard. Also, grey/black/brown are great neutral colors to pair with anything underneath. Also look at Zara or H&M for other tweed or herringbone blazer options.
4. Basic T-shirts BDG t-shirts from Urban Outfitters are plain, sturdy, and comfortable. You can usually get two or three for a discount. They are great by themselves, under zipped hoodies, or sweaters. Also, almost every cut and color is available.
