Strike a Pose

If you have to be photographed for an engagement picture, or anything that will be published, it can be hard to figure out what to wear. There are some rules of thumb for dressing in front of the camera. First, it helps to have a solid color that would distract from your face or add the illusion of weight. Second, sticking with clothes that fit well help eliminate the look of bulk anywhere. Third, if you are going to be doing any side shots where you arm will be down at your side, try to wear something that covers your shoulder (three-quarter length sleeve or a longer short-sleeve) in order to prevent your arm from taking up the entire shot. Fourth, if you choose a dress, make sure your shoe is in a neutral shade and has a slight heel or wedge. Finally, keep in mind that jewelry should compliment your look, not overpower it (stick with earrings that don't look like ornaments). Here are some basic styles that would work well in front of a lens.

1. Jessica Simpson Dress This dress is a great color and style that would put all the attention on your skin color and glow. By adding a nude shoe/sandal and a contrasting cardigan (see below), you would look classy and cute.

2. BCBG Dress In sticking with dress options, this is another style that is flattering. This shade of color tends to look great on all skin types too. Again, paired with a body-skimming cardigan and nude shoe, this would work great.

3. Ann Taylor Loft Cardigan If you have the perfect sleeveless look but need some coverage, a cardigan style like this is a perfect accent. Because of its shape, it will compliment a simple tank top or a great dress. You can throw a neutral belt over it or wear it open.

4. BCBG Skirt A great skirt and black fitted top tucked in always looks great. Add a long simple chained necklace on top with simple black heels to complete the look.

5. Guess For outdoor shots, a simple cotton summer dress is a great choice. This v-neck style with belt cinches and elongates the torso. You could swap the simple cloth belt shown for a woven brown belt and silver hoop earrings.

6. Silk Top If you have blue eyes, everyone knows how great a blue top can make them pop. Therefore, go with what works for you color wise and keep it simple. A great silk top paired with black pants or great jeans can be easy, comfortable, and attractive.
